Description
Bisected, ‘G’ used on 13th May 1841 and ‘H’ used on the 14th May 1841 both sent from ‘Hull’ to ‘Beverley’.
A superb pair of covers illustrating the usage of The World’s First Bisected Stamp.
Stanley Gibbons specialised catalogue states:
“We do not list the 1840 2d covers as the practice was unauthorised by the Post Office”.
This cannot be the case, as there are no ‘Tax’-‘Postage Due’ markings, so it must have been authorised by the Post Office.
Magnificent And Unique.
