Charles Whiting monochrome and bicoloured “Beaufort House” essays, a se-tenant pair with blue and red design at left and a blue only design at right, large margins all round, affixed at top left corner of large cover by Whiting himself, sent with his compliments on January 30th. 1866, pair of 1d. reds (lettered JK-JL) tied at top right, inscribed in manuscript “Specimens of Postage Stamps as proposed by Mr. C.W. 6 years previously to Mr. R.H.” (referring to Sir Rowland Hill), essays are design numbers 25 and 26, fine; a most unusual cover showing a “postal” use of these essays.
