Description

The first adhesive postage stamp of the world was intended for use from May 6, 1840 but was delivered to the post offices on May the 1st. Use before May 6 is extremely rare (and contrary to regulations). This is the earliest known use, on May 1, 1840 and is UNIQUE- the only such cover known – the first time ever in the world that a postage stamp was ever used on a letter.
